This is yet another G1 homage of the G1 Season 3 episode "Only Human" where Rodimus, Magnus, Springer and Arcee's conciousness were transfered into synthetic human bodies... technology seemingly provided by a character name "Snake" aka G.I.Joe's Cobra Commander :)
